As the final term of current OCU President and Chairperson Yoshiki Nishizawa will be ending on 31 March 2016, a special council has elected his successor. The council elected Prof. Dr. Arakawa (MD) as prospective President and Chairperson of Osaka City University.

3. Selection Motivation (Summary)
???? OCU is currently working towards the realization of a new-model university, through an integration with Osaka Prefecture University, in order to contribute to the reinvigoration of the Osaka region and function as a center of knowledge in an increasingly competitive domestic and international academic world.
???? The university must further proceed with its reform process, continuing its determined management effort to establish the direction for the integration of the two universities under tight fiscal circumstances of the City of Osaka.
???? To be able to flexibly answer to the needs of society, the university needs a strong executive leadership that can clearly define the future vision and direction of the university, advance its strategic operations and carry forward the university reform process.
???? After careful deliberation in which all factors were considered, the council, choosing between two candidates, selected Prof. Dr. Tetsuo Arakawa to be the new prospective President and Chairperson. ?
Prof. Dr. Arakawa, during his terms as Vice-Director of the University Hospital and Dean of the Faculty and Graduate School, has achieved concrete results as a pioneer, propelling the reform process by improving the management of the hospital, internationalizing the faculty and graduate school and defining and developing its PR strategy.

In addition to that, he has functioned as the Chairman of the Association of Medical Colleges, actively bringing together the heads of medical universities and medical faculties, working on the reform of medical education in Japan, and coordinating with the relevant government offices. He also holds the position of chairman of the Craftsmanship-Medicine Consortium (CMC), an innovative initiative that aims to structurally connect the medical and manufacturing worlds.

Considering his extensive executive and managerial experience and achievements both within and outside the university, his insight and strong commitment to the realization of a new-model university, the election council feels that he meets all requirements the council established at the start of the election process.

The council is of the opinion that for the future development of the university in an increasingly difficult environment it needs the experience, performance, management skills and decisiveness which Prof. Dr. Arakawa has shown to possess in his positions leading internal and external organizations. ?
???? The council is counting on the prospective president and chairperson to bring the Sugimoto and Abeno campuses into unison and take active charge in the communication with parties within and outside the university.
