Success! From the OCU Advanced Mathematical Institute (OCAMI)
Mikiya Masuda, specially appointed professor of the OCU Graduate School of Science (Professor Emeritus and Research Fellow of OCAMI), received the 2020 Mathematical Society of Japan Geometry Prize, under the title "Special Research on Toric Topology - Conversion Group Theory".
Conversion Group Theory is a field of topology that studies the symmetry of figures. Among them, toric topology is receiving attention from many mathematicians due to its connection with various fields of mathematics.
This award recognizes Dr. Masuda’s contribution to the construction of the basic theory. OCU is making efforts to develop this field by promoting international conferences and joint research.

Award ceremony and discussion held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020
At 16:50 on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, Prof. Kaoru Ono (Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Kyoto University), chairman of the Geometry Prize Committee of the Mathematical Society of Japan, presented Dr. Masuda with the award certificate and trophy.
After a fruitful discussion, Dr. Masuda excited the audience with an update on all his research projects. The audience engaged back with a lot of questions and answers, making for a meaningful time.
Masato Hashizume receives the 2020 MSJ Takebe Katahiro Prize for Encouragement of Young Researchers
Masato Hashizume (Research Fellow, Institute of Mathematics, Gakushin PD, Hiroshima University), a graduate of the doctoral program in the Department of Mathematics, Graduate School of Science, Hiroshima University, won the award under the title "Study of compactness loss phenomenon of non-compact variational problems".
The MSJ Takebe Katahiro Prize for Encouragement of Young Researchers was established with the purpose of commending and encouraging members who have engaged in meaningful mathematics research, such as praising their outstanding achievements at a young age. This is a traditional award for young members of the Society.
